Summary of Abuse Allegations against Bishop James F McCarthy:

Bishop James F McCarthy was ordained in 1968. He became Cardinal O’Connor’s secretary in 1984. He was ordained a bishop in 1999. According to media reports, in 2002, McCarthy resigned after admitting to having affairs with women.

In April 2019, his name appeared on the Archdiocese of New York’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. The claims against him are eligible for the Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP).
