Summary of Abuse Allegations against Brother Claude Ory:
Brother Claude Ory became a Jesuit priest in 1954. According to media reports, in 1994, the president of the Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas fired him as maintenance supervisor, after repeatedly hearing allegations of sexual impropriety, providing alcohol to minors and ultimately sexual assault. He was reassigned to Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL.
In 2000, Brother Ory moved to Baltimore’s Loyola College campus, where he was in charge of managing the Jesuits’ Ignatius House residence hall.
In April 2002, a man accused Brother Ory of sexually assaulting him when he was an 18-year-old recent Jesuit graduate in the mid-1990s. He said he was working on a campus maintenance crew when one day after work, Brother Ory got him drunk. He believed the drink was spiked with an unknown hallucinogen.
They ended up at an off-campus apartment, where he said Brother Ory grabbed his genitals and tried to perform oral sex on him. The man said he ran from the apartment, shirtless and shoeless, and within days reported the incident to Dallas police and school officials. Brother Ory denied drugging or assaulting his accuser, but admitted to giving him alcohol. No criminal charges were filed.
In March 2007, Loyola College removed Brother Ory from its Baltimore campus after earlier multiple substantial sexual abuse allegations made against him surfaced.
Later in 2007, Brother Ory was accused in a lawsuit of repeated molestation of a Jesuit High student from 1974 to 1977, beginning when the boy was age 14. Brother Ory was removed from ministry, and the case was ultimately settled for an undisclosed amount.
As of September 2018, Brother Ory lives in a restricted environment under supervision at a Jesuit residence in Baltimore, MD.
December 2018, his name appeared publicly on the Jesuits’ Central and Southern list of Jesuits credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. That same month, it also appeared on the Jesuits’ Maryland Province list.
In February 2019, his name was added to Archdiocese’s of Baltimore’s list of clergy credibly accused of child sex abuse.
