Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Brother Jonathan Michael Hunt:

In 1964, Hunt professed simple vows, receiving the religious name Jonathan. In 1979, he was ordained deacon at St. Mary’s Abbey, Morristown, NJ. In 1973, Hunt began his long teaching career at Delbarton School in Morristown.

In 2021, according to media reports, a former star athlete and football player at Delbarton School in Morris County has filed a lawsuit against the Order of St. Benedict of New Jersey, which runs the Delbarton School, claiming three monks sexually abused him as a teenager in the 1970s. The lawsuit identifies the monks as three men who have since died — the Rev. Manus Duffy, Br. Jonathan Michael Hunt and the Rev. Bruno Ugliano.

The victim claims the abuse took place in the 1970s when he was 13-14 years old. The abuse is said to have occurred more than 150 times in the 1977-1978 school year in bathroom stalls, a school office, a classroom, and on a retreat to the Jersey Shore, according to the complaint, filed in Superior Court of Morris County.

Hunt died in 2020.
