Summary of Abuse Allegations against Brother Thomas Trager:
Br. Thomas Trager entered the Society of Mary’s novitiate and professed his first vows in 1957. He started his career as a teacher, and in 1965, he was appointed Vocation Director for the Marianist’s Province of New York. In 1970, he served as Chaminade High School’s Dean of Discipline. He also worked as the executive director for St. John’s Residence for Boys (St. John’s Home).
According to media reports, in November 2010, he was arrested and charged with sexually abusing a minor boy while he worked at St. John’s in Rockaway Park, New York, in 2009. In April 2011, the charges against him were dropped.
Trager is a member of the Marianist Province of the United States, and resided in the Archdiocese of Baltimore since about 2013, including at St. Joseph’s Monastery in Baltimore City until very recently.
On May 8th, 2021, the Archdiocese of Baltimore announced today that a lawsuit was filed last month in New York state court alleging that Trager had engaged in sexual abuse of a minor in about 2009 in New York. Trager was separately accused of abuse in New York in 2010 and, after investigation, civil authorities ruled the accusation was unfounded and the charge was dismissed.
The Archdiocese of Baltimore has suspended Trager from performing ministry in the Archdiocese pending the outcome of the lawsuit and an investigation by civil authorities or the Marianists.
