Father Benedict Barszcz was born in he Poland. He was ordained to the priesthood in the Pallotine religious order in 1990. According to media reports, in July 1999, he was removed from ministry after police arrested and charged him with public lewdness. He exposed himself to two girls, ages 14 and 15, and masturbated in front of them while sitting in a car on the East Side of Buffalo. He was assistant pastor at St. Peter Catholic Church in Lewiston at the time of the arrest. In 2001, he was listed as port chaplain in Szczecin, Poland.
In November 2018, Father Barszcz’s name was included in the Diocese of Buffalo’s updated list of priests with substantiated claims of sexual abuse of a minor. The original list was published in March 2018.
