Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Charles O’Donoghue:

Fr. Charles O’Donoghue was a member of a religious order based in Ireland known as the Irish Spiritans, also known as Father of the Holy Ghost. According to media reports, in July 2009, a civil suit was filed alleging the sexual abuse of a 7-year-old girl and her 8-year-old old brother by a John O’Donoghue at St. Catharine Parish in Spring Lake, New Jersey from 1972 to 1974. The Diocese of Trenton said that Charles O’Donoghue was assigned there from 1969 to 1975, but there was no record of a “John”.

In 2002, the Diocese of Trenton received a letter informing them of the alleged abuse by Charles O’Donoghue. In July 2009, another letter was received regarding John. Both letters were turned over to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Charles O’Donoghue returned to Ireland in 1975 and is believed to have died in 1986.
