Father Clatus Snyder was ordained to the priesthood in 1934. He served as the founding pastor of St. Leo the Great in Amherst. Throughout his career, he served in multiple parishes. Due to health problems, he retired from ministry in 1981. He died in 2001.

According to media reports, in November 2018, his name was included in the Diocese of Buffalo‘s updated list of priests with substantiated claims of sexual abuse of a minor. Priests who only received a single allegation after their death were not included. One name that was listed for the first time was Father Clatus Snyder.
