Summary of Abuse Allegations against Deacon Dan P. Stallings:

According to media reports, Deacon Dan P. Stallings was arrested in December 2007 and charged with having a sexual relationship with his stepdaughter. The abuse began in 1963 when the girl was 8 years old, and continued through the girl’s high school years. Deacon Stallings was removed from ministry.

The victim told police that over a period of six years, Deacon Stallings sexually assaulted her more than 60 times in the bedroom and bathroom of the Stallings family home. At the time the girl asked Deacon Stallings why he was doing this. He told her “it was because he loved her, and it would be their secret,” the prosecutor told the judge.

The victim also told police Deacon Stallings had abused her cousin. Prosecutors told the judge that Stallings acknowledged that abuse, but he was not charged with those crimes.

In January 2008, additional charges were filed after a woman alleged Deacon Stallings abused her in 1998, when she was 15 or 16 years old. In March 2008, he pleaded guilty to five counts of incest and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault. In May 2008, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison.

Deacon Stallings was laicized in 2009, and died in 2015.
