Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Denman Dewey:

Father Denman Dewey was a member of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate religious order for thirteen years. He became a diocesan priest in 1963, and was assigned to churches in the Dioceses of Buffalo, Aurora, Jamestown and Batavia. He was “active in youth work” and religious education for young adults.

According to media reports, in April 2018, a man publicly reported that Father Dewey sexually abused him as a 12-year old boy in Batavia, where the priest worked from 1964 to 1965. The boy’s parents had a party and invited Father Dewey to stay over.

“That night I was awoken with a hand over my face and a naked man on top of me, who just happened to be a Catholic priest. Things happened that should never happen to a child never ever,” the man said.

When another allegation of child abuse by Father Dewey was reported, he was moved to an East Aurora parish. The date of his death is unknown.
