Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Eugene Corbesero:

Father Eugene Corbesero was ordained a priest of the Consolata Society for Foreign Missions in 1962 and served in the Diocese of Metuchen. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career in Michigan, New Jersey, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Rhode Island. In 1979, he left the order to marry. He was later widowed.

in August 2006, while at a sleepover at the priest’s New Jersey home, a 12 year-old boy called 911 and reported to police that Father Corbesero molested him. Father Corbesero admitted the abuse and was convicted of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

In 2006, a “confidential informant” told prosecutors that Father Corbesero may have been accused of child sexual abuse in the past. The judge denied the prosecutors’ motion to review his personnel file from his time as a priest. In October 2007, he was sentenced to five years in prison.

He died in 2016.

According to media reports, in December 2019, the Diocese of Charlotte released a list credibly accused clerics, which included Father  Corbesero. It noted that in 1995 the diocese received a report that he sexually abused a teenage boy sometime between 1973 and 1975, while assigned to Our Lady of Consolation in Charlotte.
