Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father John Bohrer:

Father John Bohrer was originally accused of abusing a teenage boy in the mid-1980s when assigned to St. Pius X in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The victim first told the Diocese of Camden in October 2002 and the allegation was subsequently reported to law enforcement, even though the criminal statute of limitations had expired.

Shortly thereafter, Father Bohrer was removed from ministry and the allegation was investigated by the diocese, and then reviewed by the Vatican. It was determined by Church leadership that Bohrer should remain in ministry.

Father Bohrer eventually returned to ministry in 2009 as a nursing home chaplain, and then eventually returned to parish ministry. In February 2011, he was asked to take on the role of administrator of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Collingswood, New Jersey, where he served for 8 years.

Bohrer submitted a request to retire and be removed from active ministry due to “health reasons” and the allegations on December 31, 2018, not long after the Diocese of Camden announced it was reviewing all personnel files for allegations of abuse and growing calls for an attorney general investigation.

In February 2019, Bohrer’s name was included on the Diocese of Camden list of priests credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors.  According to the Bishop of Camden, the list includes, “those who admitted to the abuse, those who were found guilty after a trial in the church courts or the civil courts, and others against whom the evidence was so overwhelming as to be virtually unquestionable.”

Bohrer is believed to be residing in Collingswood, New Jersey.
