Summary of Allegations Against Father John Doherty:

Father John Doherty was ordained a priest in 1961, who served in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. According to media reports, he was first named publicly as accused in a priest profile in the 2018 Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report. Doherty was removed from ministry in 1986. The allegation(s) against him was/were not reported to law enforcement until 2007.  Doherty’s assignments included St. Peter’s in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

The number of allegations against Doherty is not clear, nor has the Diocese of Pittsburgh offered any details about the allegation(s), such as the age/gender of the victims or the priest’s assignment at the time of the alleged abuse. The Diocese has said only that at least one of the allegations was deemed “credible and substantiated” after an internal investigation.

Doherty is still living and is believed to be residing in Pennsylvania.
