Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Joseph Bosetti:
Fr. Joseph Bosetti was ordained a priest in 1946, and served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Denver. According to the October 2019 Colorado Attorney General’s report of a special investigation into the three Catholic dioceses of Colorado and their handling of sexual abuse allegations, he was publicly identified as a documented, accused child molester.
According to the documents reviewed by the AG’s investigator, Bosetti was accused of engaging a 16 year old boy in oral sex at least 10 times over a 4- to 5-month period from 1949 to 1950. Some of the incidents even occurred in the Archdiocese of Denver’s Chancery offices.
According to the Report, Bosetti was the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Denver and the director of the Cathedral Boys’ Choir. As Chancellor, he would have had access to all of the personnel files of all priests in the Archdiocese, including his own. Indeed, the Report indicates that “his file contained no evidence of [the] ‘clear and direct report of sexual abuse.’ We found this allegation documented in a different file, not Bosetti’s, therefore, we are not confident that there was no other abuse by Bosetti or that the Denver Archdiocese did not know about it before Bosetti abused” this victim.
The Archdiocese never investigated or other reported the allegation to law enforcement.
Bosetti died in 1954.
