Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Joseph J Brennan:

Father Joseph Brennan was accused of sexual abuse of a 12-14-year-old boy at Saint Maurice’s, a church within the Diocese of Camden, in 1957-1959. The accusations were made public in a lawsuit filed in 2016 against 16 priests, including Brennan.

Notably, Brennan took sick leave very near the time of the accused abuse and was transferred to a different parish upon his return to the ministry. His first assignment after sick leave was to a parish with a school that had more than 400 students.

Joseph Brennan’s name appears on the 2019 Diocese of Camden list of credibly accused priests. According to Bishop Sullivan, the list, “includes those who admitted to the abuse, those who were found guilty after a trial in the church courts or the civil courts, and others against whom the evidence was so overwhelming as to be virtually unquestionable.”

Brennan died in 1976.
