Summary of Allegations against Father Mark Honart:

Honart was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph in Missouri.  He spent much of his ministry working outside of the Diocese until he eventually landed in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  He was incardinated into the Diocese of Scranton in 2009.

Notably, Honart worked in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe (New Mexico) before coming to Scranton to work.  That is an assignment often seen for priests who were treated at the notorious Servants of the Paraclete facility for pedophile priests located in Jemez Springs, New Mexico.  However, the main facility closed in the 1990s following the SOP’s bankruptcy, and the grand jury report does not discuss the New Mexico assignment, so it is impossible to tell exactly why Honart was in New Mexico for nearly four years.

In 2011, the Diocese of Scranton received a report from Kansas City – St. Joseph that Honart was accused of molesting a fourth grade student (male) at Holy Cross school from approximately 1985-1986.  Honart’s faculties were removed by the Bishop of Scranton and it does not appear that he ever returned to public ministry.

Honart remains a priest, though the Diocese of Scranton has indicated he will never return to ministry. He was last known to be residing in the Plymouth, Pennsylvania, area.  He is 72 years old.
