Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Robert Banigan:

Fr. Robert Banigan served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Denver. According to media reports, he was first identified publicly as an accused sexual abuser in the October 2019 Colorado Attorney General’s report.

According to the Report, the Archdiocese of Denver files contain one allegation of abuse against Banigan.  The victim reported his abuse in 2019, alleging that Banigan began abusing him in 1961 when the victim was six years old.  He says that the priest fondled him on multiple occasions over a six- to eight-month period, telling the child that “this is what God wants” and that “the devil would get him if he did not cooperate.”

At the time of the abuse, Banigan was assigned to St. Leo the Great parish in Denver.

Banigan is believed to have died in 1986 at the age of 70 according to public records, but the Archdiocese of Denver has not confirmed this.
