Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Ronald Mierzwa:
According to media reports, in September 2018, Father Ronald Mierzwa, was suspended from ministry after a complaint of child sexual abuse was reported by a news outlet. There were no details given regarding the age/gender of the victims, or the priest’s assignment at the time of the alleged abuse. The report was broadcast in 2002, when a woman accused an unnamed priest of “making her sons parade around in their underwear.” Although he was not identified in the original report, Father Mierzwa turned himself in to Bishop Richard J. Malone a few days later. According to the report, though the Diocese of Buffalo had known about the allegation against Father Mierzwa since 2002.
The Diocesan Review Board deemed the allegations credible in March 2019. Father Mierzwa is to remain on leave while the results of an investigation are reviewed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican in Rome.
