Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Vincent Inghilterra:

In 2013, the Diocese of Trenton settled a lawsuit against Fr. Vincent Inghilterra claiming he had sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy at a church-run camp. According to media reports, the victim’s parents sent him to the camp in 1979 due to confusion regarding the boy’s sexuality. Inghilterra supervised the camp as well as serving the army as a chaplain at the time of the abuse. The victim claimed Inghilterra abused him on two separate occasions: once in the priest’s home and another in Inghilterra’s office.

“At the time, I didn’t think it was abuse… a priest isn’t just your best friend. He represents the church. If he says, that’s okay, that’s okay. You don’t question that.” – Victim Statement

Apart from tending to the camp and working with the army, Inghilterra was known for taking groups of children on religious pilgrimages overseas to France, Bosnia, and Portugal. Throughout his 51 years of service in active ministry, Inghilterra was transferred over eight times before his suspension in 2013. A review board deemed the allegation credible.

In 2016, the diocese agreed to a 6-figure settlement with the man claiming abuse by Inghilterra at age 16 in 1979.

Inghilterra’s name appears on the Diocese of Trenton’s 2019 list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse.

Inghilterra is believed to be still living in the New Jersey area. As of 2012, he was still leading international pilgrimages as a member of the Franciscan order, according to information available online.
