Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Jules Arceneaux:

Fr. Jules Arceneaux was ordained a priest in 1990, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Lafayette. According to media reports, in July 2004, Fr. Arceneaux, pastor of St. Francis Regis Church in Arnaudville, was placed on leave after the FBI seized a church computer in his rectory that contained suspected child pornography. The U.S. Attorney’s Office closed the case in April 2005 without filing charges because prosecutors could not prove that the pornographic images that were downloaded on the computer were of children. The Diocese of Lafayette conducted its own investigation of Fr. Arceneaux; however, the results were not released. The Catholic Directory of 2010 indicates that Arceneaux was still on leave at the time of its publication.

Fr. Arceneaux was publicly named in April of 2019 on the Diocese of Lafayette’s disclosure list of “diocesan clergy against whom credible allegations have been made regarding sexual abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult.”  It is unclear, however what actions the Diocese of Lafayette took to protect and warn the public between 2005 and 2019.

As of 2020, Jules Arceneaux was working as a behavioral health therapist in Lafayette, Louisiana.
