Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Alan D Jupin:
According to media reports, in May 2003, Father Alan D Jupin was accused of raping a 16-year-old boy from 1975-1979 and sharing him with 3 other priests (Douglas, Ophals, Cawlings). Most of the alleged abuse occurred at the rectory of St. John the Baptist Church in Schenectady, where Jupin was pastor.
“I wouldn’t have done that if I didn’t love you,” Jupin allegedly said as he sat naked on a bed next to the teenager, according to the lawsuit.
He denied the allegations and was not prosecuted because of the statute of limitations. The lawsuit, also said Jupin stalked and intimidated his victim in 2002, when the allegations surfaced, threatening to kill himself if the man lodged the complaint, saying “I’m not like all of those priests who go after little children.”
A second survivor came forward in June 2003 alleging that he was sexually abused as a minor by Jupin in the 1970s. Jupin went on voluntary leave in 2003. In January 2004, the suits were dismissed without determining the validity of the charges. The Diocesan Review Board and Bishop Howard J. Hubbard reinstated him following an investigation of the allegations and he resumed his duties in 2004.
In Fall 2010, a man alleged Jupin abused him beginning when he was age 9 in the 1980s. He said he was also abused by four other priests (Ophals, Bertolucci, Louis Douglas, and Urban). Jupin placed on leave in March 2011. The Diocesan Review Board again found the allegations to not be credible and he was reinstated later that year in November.
From 2008 until his death in 2019, Jupin’s status as a priest and whether he had access to children are unknown.
In July of 2020, The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany announced that it’s adding the deceased Alan Jupin to its “List of Offenders” after an investigation found reasonable cause related to allegations of sexual abuse against minors.
