Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Albert Nunez:

Fr. Albert Nunez was ordained a priest in 1964, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Lafayette. According to media reports, in May 2019, the Diocese of Lafayette issued a statement that the Louisiana State Police had conducted an investigation of child sexual abuse in the 1970’s against Fr. Albert Nunez. The alleged victim went to police in 2016 after he learned that another man had also claimed that he was abused by Nunez as a child. The accuser alleges that when he was between 12 and 14 years old, his mother encouraged him to spend the night at the rectory at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Church Point, LA. Fr. Nunez took the boy to a bedroom where they both slept in a small bed. When the victim awoke in the middle of the night, Fr. Nunez was “spooning” him. The boy left the bed and spent the rest of the night sleeping in a bathroom.

A second man told police that both he and his late brother were abused by Nunez and that the brother had told family members about the abuse. After several months the Louisiana State Police closed the investigation because the victims did not press charges.

As of 2019, Fr. Nunez was living in a diocesan nursing home in New Iberia LA.
