Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father Alfred Soave:

Father Alfred Soave was ordained in the Diocese of Brooklyn before the Diocese of Rockville Centre was created in 1957. Father Soave retired in 1996 and died in March 1999. According to media reports, in 2003, Father Alfred Soave was named in a child sexual abuse lawsuit alleging that he sexually abused a teenage boy in the late 1970s.  At the time, he worked at St. Hugh of Lincoln in Huntington Station.

Father Soave is “Priest T” referred to in a Suffolk County Grand Jury report released in 2003. According to the report “Priest T” had a number of victims and was sent for therapy following multiple allegations of abuse. It was recommended he not be returned to ministry, and was given the title of “Vicar for Senior Priests.”

Soave was known for taking boys from the church, individually or in groups, to Jones Beach on outings.  Dozens of men have reported that as boys they were molested by Father Soave at Jones Beach, often in the shower.

In August 2019, Father Soave was accused in a lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act, of sexually abusing a 10-year-old altar boy from 1979 to 1983, while working at St. Hugh’s in Huntington Station. He was accused in another lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act of sexually abusing, along with Father William Burke, an 8-year-old child from 1974-1979 during school activities and rooms at St. Andrew’s in Sag Harbor. In recent years, Father Soave has been identified in lawsuits as among the most prolific alleged perpetrators of abuse in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. His victims claim that Soave abused them at church, on retreats, on field trips, at a North Haven beach, Jones Beach, on a trip to Shelter Island, at a parish high school, and at his private residence in Long Island.

Father Alfred Soave is listed on the Diocese of Rockville Centre’s 2021 List of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.
