Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Angelo Mariano:

A Jesuit priest of the California Province, Fr. Angelo Mariano served at Most Holy Trinity in San Jose, California in the 1990s. According to media reports, in 1998, Mariano was convicted of child molestation after a police officer caught Mariano performing oral copulation on two teenage boys while posing as a 25-year-old Hawaiian woman named “Kim”. Mariano was arrested, convicted, and sent to Santa Clara County Jail for five months.

According to statements made in court documents, Jesuit leaders reprimanded Mariano for sexual misconduct five years before the incident. After his release from prison, Mariano spent six months at a treatment facility for sex offenders in Maryland. He then moved to the Sacred Heart Jesuit community at Los Gatos, across from Santa Clara University. In 2002, he was accused of sexually abusing two mentally disabled men who washed dishes at the Los Gatos facility.

Mariano is a registered sex offender and is named on the Diocese of San Jose’s list of priests credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor in 2018. He is also named on the Jesuits West Province list.

Mariano was living in a Jesuit residence at Santa Clara University until he was expelled from the Jesuits order in late 2002.  He may be residing in the Philippines now.
