Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Anthony Thomas Jablonowski:
Father Anthony Jablonowski was an extern priest ordained in 1970 for the Diocese of Covington, Kentucky. He worked in several dioceses and in 1980, transferred to the Diocese of Cheyenne in Wyoming, then to the Diocese of Steubenville in Ohio in 2000. According to media reports, in 2004, he pleaded no contest to charges of sexual abuse of a 17-year old boy in 1982. He was also accused of conducting rituals of penance that involved hanging young men upside down – naked, bound, gagged and blindfolded – and flogging them. He called them “prayers of penance.”
Father Jablonowski’s priestly privileges were removed, and he was sentenced to 15 months to 7 yrs in prison. In March 2005, another accuser filed a civil suit against him. He was released in July 2005 and required to register as sex a offender. His laicization was announced June 2006. He returned to live in Ohio.
As of 2010, he was a registered sex offender in Florida.
Father Jablonowski’s name appeared on the Diocese of Tuscon’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors. It noted he was referred to as the Steubenville priest. In October 2018, his name also appeared on the Diocese of Steubenville’s list, as well as the Diocese of Cheyenne’ list in June 2019. It noted four adolescent male victims, with the abuse occurring from 1983 to 1988.
In October 2019, his name was included on Glenmary Home Missioners’ list. He had worked there from 1976-1980 on loan to the order. In December 2019, his name was included on the Diocese of Charlotte’s list. It appeared on the Diocese of Covington’s in July 2020, and on the Diocese of Lexington’s list in August 2020. It noted one known victim there at Lexington Catholic High in the early 1970s. His name was also included on the Diocese of Atlanta’s list.
