Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Armand Thibault:

Fr. Armand Thibault (a/k/a Br. Raymond) entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in 1946. He professed his final vows in 1950 and spent most of his time as a brother serving missions in Africa. In 1982, Thibault entered the Marist order. He was ordained a priest in 1985, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Portland.

According to media reports, Fr. Thibault was accused of fondling a 13-year-old boy scout at a church-owned lakeside cabin in 1992. Thibault spent the night at the cabin with two scouts after completing renovations at the camp. Following the incident, the victim’s parents brought the allegation to Bishop Proulx and Thibault’s Marist superior. Fr. Thibault was removed from his assignment at St. Bruno-St. Remi Parish.

In 1993, The State of Maine indicted Fr. Thibault on the following charges: unlawful sexual contact with a child under 14 and endangering the welfare of a minor by providing beer. Later that year, Thibault was found not guilty on the first charge. He plead no contest to the second charge. He then spent two years in treatment at the New Life Center in VA and was barred from parish ministry. In January of 2002, Fr. Thibault was removed from “any and all public ministry.”

Fr. Armand Thibault died in 2012.
