Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Benedict Ehmann:

Father Benedict Ehmann served in the priesthood for 65 years. He was a professor of sacred music and a nationally recognized writer and speaker on issues of liturgy and church music, who spoke often on the character of the social church. He retired in 1994 and died in 2002.

According to media reports, in February 2020, he was named in a lawsuit filed under the Child Victims Act as a serial pedophile that alleged he sexually abused a man when he was an 8-year-old altar boy in 1969, while he served St. Michael’s in Rochester. The lawsuit stated that Father Ehman introduced the boy to another priest affiliated with St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish who also repeatedly abused him. It stated he was sexually assaulted by both priests at the same time on the premises of St. Michael’s and St. Frances.
