Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Bertrand Horvath:
Father Bertrand Horvath was was ordained a Conventual Franciscan priest in 1970, who was accepted ad experimentum into the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1972. His assignment was terminated in 1974, at which time he left the Archdiocese. He worked in several dioceses, including the Diocese of Amarillo in Texas, where he reportedly served for 20 years.
According to media reports, Father Horvath left the Diocese of Amarillo in 2000 after the Diocese of Orange notified officials of child sexual abuse allegations against him. In 2002, he was named in a civil lawsuit alleging that he sexually abused an altar boy in 1972 at St. Kilian Church in Mission Viejo.
Father Horvath’s name appeared on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors , as well as on the Diocese of Las Vegas list released in April 2019.
His whereabouts since 1975 have been unknown. It is believed he died in approximately 2012.
