Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Carlos Trujillo:
Fr. Carlos Trujillo was ordained a priest in approximately 1976, and in the Diocese of Pueblo. According to media reports, in December 2020, the Attorney General’s Office released a supplemental report of the allegations made in the Colorado Dioceses’ voluntary compensation fund. According to the report, Fr. Trujillo was one of the newly identified priests who served in the Diocese of Pueblo.
Among the allegations documented in the files of the Diocese of Pueblo was one against a priest, Fr. Trujillo. According to the report, he was the subject of a report that he was sexually abusing a 16- to 17-year-old boy at the St. Joseph Parish in Capulin, Colorado from 1978-1979.
First, Trujillo was engaging in ‘grooming’ behavior, getting close to the teenage boy and his family. Trujillo bought the boy gifts, took him on a trip, and would have breakfast with the boy and his family after Sunday Mass. Then, Trujillo sexually abused the teenage boy for approximately two years while he served as the Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Capulin, Colorado.
When the report was received through the IRRP in 2019, the Diocese of Pueblo reported the abuse to law enforcement, however, they did not independently investigate the report because Carlos Trujillo had left the priesthood decades before the report against him.
