Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Christian Roy:

Fr. Christian Roy was ordained a priest in 1975, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Portland. He was chaplain for the Diocese’s scouting program and a part-time prison chaplain at the Maine State Prison in Thomaston. According to media reports, in 1993, Fr. Roy was removed from active ministry after an allegation surfaced that he had sexually abused a minor form 1983-1990. Information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims and the nature of the alleged sexual abuse was not provided by the Diocese of Portland. The diocese substantiated the allegations, and Fr. Roy was never allowed to serve as a priest again.

In 1994, a woman sued Fr. Roy and the Diocese of Portland alleging that Fr. Roy began a homosexual relationship with her husband while the couple was seeing Fr. Roy for marital counseling at St. Francis of Assisi in 1992. According to the suit, Fr. Roy hired the woman’s husband as a janitor at St. Francis while the couple was in counseling and then stole the husband’s affections. The couple divorced in 1993.

A Maine State Prison inmate serving a 60-year sentence for the murder of his grandfather, reportedly  filed a suit against the Diocese of Portland in 2016 alleging that Fr. Roy sexually abused him from 1979-1982. At the time of the abuse, the victim was living with his grandparents. The abuse occurred in multiple locations including during outings to Red Sox baseball games at Fenway Park in Boston.

According to the alleged victim, after the games Fr. Roy sometimes took him to the home of another priest, Fr. Lauzon, where both priests sexually assaulted him. The suit also alleges that Fr. Roy sexually abused the victim between 1987-1991 when the victim was imprisoned for his grandfather’s murder and Fr. Christian Roy was assigned to the Maine State Prison as a part-time chaplain.

The Vatican laicized Fr. Christian Roy in 2006. His current whereabouts are unknown.
