Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Christopher Pliauplis:

Fr. Christopher Pliauplis first started his career as a religious order brother in Steubenville, Ohio. He left for three years to become a nurse and was then ordained for the Diocese of Steubenville in 1987. He was transferred to the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 1991 to be near his sick mother, then briefly to Brooklyn, and then to the Archdiocese of New York.

According to media reports, in January 2006, Pliauplis was accused of inappropriately touching a 17-year-old boy while he was assigned to St. Patrick’s in Staten Island. In March, he was placed on leave, and per the recommendation of the Archdiocesan Review Board, in June he was removed from ministry. He denied the allegation and appealed to the Vatican. In June 2008, the Archdiocese of New York announced that the church court had cleared him. He returned to ministry in July 2008 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan and assisted there until 2011. He went on a leave of absence in 2012.

In 2019, his name was included on the Archdiocese of New York’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. However, the Archdiocese of New York stated that he “had been accused of sexually abusing a minor, [and] was found not guilty by an ecclesiastical court on December 14, 2007.” As of 2020, he is believed to be living in the Bronx, New York.
