Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Edward Franklin:

Father Edward Franklin was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Ogdensburg in 1962. According to media reports, in November 2018, his name was included on the Diocese of Ogdensburg’s list of 28 priests who were credibly accused of sexual misconduct with a minor or a vulnerable adult.

Details of the allegation, including the number of alleged victims or when and where the alleged misconduct occurred, are unknown. The list noted that Father Franklin had been removed from ministry by the Diocese of Ogdensburg in 1996, and died in April 2005.

Diocesan officials had previously said they would not release the names, largely to protect the privacy of victims. Each name on the list has been internally investigated and the Diocesan Review Board found that the allegations were credible.

Father Franklin’s name also appears on the Hartford Archdiocese’s list of credibly accused priests as of January 2019.  Franklin was on study Leave at Trinity College in Hartford, while living at Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Plainville, without any record of having been granted the faculties required for priestly ministry in the Archdiocese of Hartford.
