Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Epiphanius Lewis:

Fr. Epiphanius Lewis was a member of the Franciscan Friars of the Province of Saint Barbara, part of what is formally known as the Order of Friars Minor.

In 2019, his name appeared on the Franciscans’ Santa Barbara Province list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors. It noted allegations reported in 1993, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 of child sex abuse of a minor in 1964-1968.

Very little is known of Lewis’ activities within the church as the Franciscans’ Santa Barbara Province has not released any information about Lewis’ assignment history nor the year he was ordained. In addition, information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims, the nature of the alleged sexual abuse, or Lewis’ assignments at the time of the alleged abuse is unknown.

At some point, Lewis was assigned to St. Paul Shipwreck in San Francisco, California.

Lewis left the Province in 1965.
