Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Francis Flemming:

According to media reports, Father Francis Flemming was accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy beginning in 1960. The alleged assault abuse went on for a period of 4 years and took place at the rectory of St. Pius X Church in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. In one incident, Flemming allegedly threatened the child with a gun and warned him to keep quiet.

In a 1994 lawsuit against the Diocese of Camden, a second accuser said he met Flemming when he was a priest at Most Holy Redeemer Church. He said the priest forced him to have oral sex and assaulted him in a house at the Jersey Shore when he was 14.  Both of the accusers settled their civil lawsuits.

Flemming reportedly denied allegations when confronted by the church in the 1960s.

Flemming’s name appears on the February 2019 Diocese of Camden list of credibly accused priests. According to Bishop Sullivan, the list, “includes those who admitted to the abuse, those who were found guilty after a trial in the church courts or the civil courts, and others against whom the evidence was so overwhelming as to be virtually unquestionable.”

Flemming died in 1986.
