Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Francis Kane:

Fr. Francis Kane was ordained a priest in 1953, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of PortlandAccording to media reports, in 1994 a Maine man filed a civil suit against Fr. Kane, Bishop Edward O’Leary, and Bishop Joseph Gerry. The alleged victim first reported an incident of child sexual abuse in 1982 against Fr. Kane to the Diocese of Portland in 1986. Fr. Kane reportedly molested him in a confessional at St. Bartholomew when he was a teenager. A year after the allegation surfaced, Fr. Kane was removed from ministry in 1987 and reassigned to the VA Hospital in Togus, where he served as chaplain until retiring in 1997. The diocese paid an undisclosed amount to settle the case.

In 2007, the Vatican sentenced Fr. Kane to a life of prayer and penance. He died in 2010.
