In February 2019, Father Frederick J. Beardsley’s name appeared publicly for the first time on the Diocese of Richmond’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. He was suspended from ministry in 1977. He died in 2006, according to the Diocese.  

The Diocese of Richmond has provided no additional information about the number of allegations against Beardsley, or the nature of the abuse, ages of the alleged victims, or Beardsley’s assignment(s) at the time of the alleged abuse.
