Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father George Michell:

According to media reports, in June 2003, Father George Michell was placed on administrative leave following a complaint of “inappropriate conduct” that allegedly occurred in the early 1980s. Father Michell “strongly” denied the accusation. He was removed from ministry and ultimately reinstated in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Father Michell was also accused of sexually abusing a child in the late 1970s while he was a priest at St. Louis de Montfort in Sound Beach, New York. No action was taken and he remained in ministry until he retired from his position as pastor of St. Patrick’s in Southold, New York in June 2010. He died in August 2019.

Fr. Michell is listed on the Diocese of Rockville Centre’s 2021 List of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor. The list states that the alleged sexual abuse occurred while Michell worked at St. Patrick in Smithtown, NY, sometime between 1979-1985. The list also says that Michell abused his victim(s) at Blydenburg Park, at his private house in Long Island, in his car, and in a swimming pool.
