Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father George S. Endal:

Father George S. Endal  was a Jesuit priest of the Oregon Province ordained in 1932. He lived and worked in remote Alaskan villages from 1936 until 1987, when he retired to an assisted living facility in Anchorage. He died in 1996.

According to media reports, in a 2011 settlement, Father Endal was named one of the Jesuits’ top ten worst alleged offenders, with 25 claims of child sexual abuse against him. His victims included boys and girls. He was also a supervisor of two other Jesuits accused of sexually abusing children, however, he took no action when sexual abuse allegations were made against him.

Additionally, from about 1968 through mid-1975 a volunteer studying to become a deacon, Joseph Lundowski, worked closely with Father Endal, traveling with him from village to village. Lundowski reportedly targeted native Alaskan boys. For over seven years, in a village called St. Michael, almost all the children were molested or raped by the two men.

At least 60 survivors have come forward with sexual abuse allegations against Father Endal. Some accusers have said that he knew Ludowski was abusing them, and told the children that it would be a mortal sin to tell anyone. Lundowski was caught in the act in 1975 and sent away, but Father Endal continued to abuse the children for another eight years. The police were never contacted.

Father Endal also reportedly told a little girl he repeatedly abused that if she told, she would go straight to hell. At least one of his victims, a girl, is said to have later taken her own life. In 2010 as part of a bankruptcy plan, the Diocese of Fairbanks paid $9.8 million to nearly 300 victims and was ordered to post on its website the list of all suspected abusers. Father Endal was included on this list.
