Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Gregory G Ingels:
Fr. Gregory G Ingels was a prominent priest of the San Francisco Archdiocese. In 2003, Ingles was charged with molesting a 15-year-old boy back in 1972. The teenage boy was a student at Marin County High School and Ingels was working there at the time.
According to media reports, Ingels acknowledged in a police tape in 2003 that he had sexually abused a 15-year-old boy in 1972, when he was a deacon and teacher at the boy’s high school, Marin Catholic in Kentfield, California. The victim reported the abuse to the archdiocese in 1996, yet Ingels was allowed to stay in ministry and continued to advance his career working as a canon lawyer.
In 2002, Ingels was removed from public ministry due to the U.S. bishops’ new “zero-tolerance” policy but he was allowed to help design the U.S. bishops’ Dallas Charter. In 2003, Ingels was charged for the 1972 case. After being charged, he was then placed on leave.
In 2003, another survivor came forward, a woman who reported to police that Ingels sexually abused her over a four-year period, beginning in 1973, when the girl was a 15-year-old student at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California. She gave the police about three dozen “love letters” that Ingels had written to her throughout the years. Both cases were dropped when the Supreme Court overturned a California law that would have allowed prosecution.
According to media reports, Ingels also abused several other girls at St. Charles rectory in San Carlos, California back in 1982.
Gregory G Ingels was last known to be living in Menlo Park and as of 2005, he was an advisor for support organizations for priests in trouble. Ingels’ status as a priest, current whereabouts, and whether he has access to children are unknown.
