Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Guy Anthony Murnig:
According to media reports, two women separately alleged that Fr. Guy Anthony Murnig sexually abused them in the 1970s, when they were high school students in Marin County, California. In 2002, Murnig was arrested and charged with sex offenses against one of the girls. The alleged incidents took place between 1970 and 1974 when Murnig was a priest at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church in Greenbrae and a faculty member at Marin Catholic High School, according to San Rafael police.
The victim said the first incident took place in the church rectory after joining the St. Sebastian’s Teen Club, which Murnig organized. She was 15 years old at the time. The charges were ultimately dropped when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a California law that would have allowed for prosecution.
Murnig left the priesthood in 1978 to marry.
