Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Horatio Daniel Medina:

According to a report in the Archdiocese of Newark’s online magazine The Catholic Advocate, in 2002 Father Horatio Daniel Medina was quietly placed on administrative leave following an allegation of child sexual abuse.

According to media reports, in 2004, Father Medina was arrested on charges of having oral sex with an 8-year-old boy in the sacristy of Blessed Sacrament Church in Elizabeth in 1999. In 2006, Father Medina pled guilty to fourth-degree child endangerment. He was sentenced to three years probation.  His faculties to minister were permanently revoked by the Archbishop. In September 2008, the case was made public when a victims group uncovered a “confidential” memo from the Archdiocese of Newark to Catholic bishops nationwide warning that Father Medina was barred from ministry and had no privileges, in the event that he sought permission to perform ministry anywhere.

In September 2013, Father Medina was laicized (removed from the priesthood) by the Vatican.

In February 2019, Father Medina’s name appeared on the Archdiocese of Newark’s list of credibly accused priests.  No details were released about the allegations against Medina, except to say that he was the subject of “multiple” allegations of abuse.  No information was provided about the age/gender of the victims and Medina’s assignments at the time of the abuse.

Father Medina is believed to be living in the Bloomfield, New Jersey, area.
