Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Hubert Reason:

In 2002, “several individuals” came forward with credible accusations that they had been abused by Fr. Hubert John Reason as minors. According to media reports, two brothers had come forward to allege abuse by Fr. Reason and Fr. Gerry Appleby, and by an Episcopal priest and an Episcopal seminarian. The men said that, in effect, the four traded them around. They claimed that Fr. Reason would also give them and other altar boys money and alcohol and take them to Tampa for professional wrestling.

In 2005, Reason was accused of sexually abusing a minor at an Altamonte Spring parish in the early-to-mid-1960s. A total of three claims were settled for $1.5M in 2005.

Fr. Reason left the diocese in 1978 and died in 1984, at age 60. He is listed on the Diocese of Orlando’s 2020 List of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor and on the Diocese of St. Petersburg’s 2016 list.
