Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Hugo Bedoya:

Fr. Hugo Bedoya, originally from Colombia, was ordained a priest of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian Fathers). He served in the Dioceses of Lubbock, TX, and Brooklyn, NY. According to media reports, in October 2003, he was working as Judicial Vicar of Marriage Tribunal for the Brooklyn Diocese when named in a civil lawsuit in which 27 victims alleged abuse by 24 priests.

According to the suit, Bedoya repeatedly sexually abused a child between the ages of 9 and 11 at Fourteen Holy Martyrs in Brooklyn, New York, in the church, in the rectory, and on a church-sponsored trip. The suit also said he examined the genitals of his altar boys in a group to make sure they were clean. He denied all the allegations.

In January 2004, another man filed in Queens State Supreme Court a lawsuit alleging abuse by Bedoya during the 1970s in Hollis’ St. Gerard Majella Church. The priest remained in ministry until he was permanently removed in June 2012.

In February 2019, Bedoya’s name appeared on the Diocese of Brooklyn’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.

Bedoya’s current whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.
