Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. J. Lawrence Ouimet:

Fr. J. Lawrence Ouimet was ordained a priest in 1974 who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Norwich. According to media reports, in 2019, a lawsuit was filed claiming that over a several-year period Ouimet plied a teenage boy with alcohol and engaged in grooming behaviors toward him sometime before 1988. He reportedly gave him whiskey and other alcohol, brought him to dinner, arranged for him to sleep at the Sacred Heart Church Rectory, and transported him across Connecticut and state lines for “sleepovers,” including one at a luxury hotel. Ouimet allegedly invited the teen to share a bed with him, talked about sex and masturbation, and disrobed and stood naked in front of the boy, demanding that he disrobe and join him in a hot tub.

Very little is known of Ouimet’s activities within the church as the Diocese of Norwich has not released any information about his assignment history.

In 2019, Ouimet’s name was included on the Diocese of Norwich list with credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor.

He died in 2002.
