Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father James A. Culver:

The Diocese of Syracuse filed for bankruptcy on June 19, 2020, due to over 40 child sex abuse lawsuits that keep surfacing. Among the names listed was Fr. James A. Culver of Utica, NY. Fr. Culver was accused of sexually abusing a minor from approximately 1969 to 1971 at St. John in North Bay, NY, and St. Mary in Verona Beach, NY.

Fr. Culver served the Diocese of Syracuse first at Sacred Heart Church in Utica and then at St. Paul’s, Rome. He then became pastor of St. John’s Church in North Bay before returning to Sacred Heart as pastor in 1976. He remained there until his retirement. Sexual abuse allegations were reported in 2019, four years after Fr. Culver passed away. He was 89.
