Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father James C. Gould:

Father James C. Gould was a priest of the Franciscan Order. According to media reports, in November 2018, his name was included in the Diocese of Buffalo’s updated list of priests with substantiated claims of sexual abuse of a minor. No information regarding the allegations was disclosed.

Church records show that the Diocese of Buffalo had known about Father Gould’s alleged abuse since 2011, when he admitted to abusing a minor. The information was included in a secret “black binder” of allegations given to Bishop Richard J. Malone when he was named bishop. An allegation against Father Gould was also included on a June 2018 agenda of the diocesan review board.

In January 2019, he was included on the Jesuit Northeast Province’s list of Jesuits credibly accused of molesting a child. In August 2019, Father Gould was named in a lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act alleging that he molested a 13-year-old boy at St. Ann’s Church in Buffalo from 1977-1978.

According to the 2018 Jesuit catalog, he is living in Murray-Weigel Hall at Fordham University.
