Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. James Kane:

Fr. James Kane was ordained a priest in 1944, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Scranton. According to media reports, in Father James Kane was not identified or discussed in the 2018 PA Grand Jury Report, but his name did appear on the August 2018 list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse published by the Diocese of Scranton. Unfortunately, no information was provided as to the gender/age of the victim(s) nor the date(s) the abuse is alleged to have occurred. However, it does mean that the allegation(s) was found to be credible by the Diocese of Scranton’s internal Review Board.

Kane was the subject of at least one claim filed in the Diocese’s Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP) in 2019. In that claim, Horowitz Law represented a woman who was sexually abused by Kane between 1966 and 1969 while he was assigned to St. John in South Waverly.

Kane died in 1985.  It appears he was a priest in good standing at the time of his death.
