Father John Armstrong

Diocese of Pittsburgh

Ordained: Unknown

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father John Armstrong:

In July 2020, Fr. John Armstrong was named in a civil lawsuit filed against the Diocese of Pittsburgh on behalf of a man who said that he was sexually abused as a teenager in the 1970s.  According to the lawsuit, Armstrong and his brother, Fr. James Armstrong, sexually abused the boy while the brothers were assigned to St. Peter’s parish in Pittsburgh.

Armstrong’s name does not appear on the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s list of credibly accused priests, or in a priest profile in the 2018 Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report. However, his brother, Fr. James Armstrong, does appear on the Diocese’s list, meaning that the Diocese has concluded (after an internal investigation) that at least one prior allegation against James Armstrong is true.
