Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father John Bouton:

Father John Bouton was ordained to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Newark in 1949. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career. According to media reports, in February 2019, the Archdiocese of Newark released a list of 63 priests “credibly accused” of child sex abuse. One of the names listed was that of Father John Bouton. The only specifics provided by the Archdiocese were the parishes and schools to which Father Bouton was assigned and the number of victims known to the Archdiocese of Newark.

Father Bouton was listed as having one credible accusation of sexual abuse. No details were provided as to the age/gender of the victim. Father Bouton’s assignment at the time of the abuse were not noted on the list. He died in 1986.
