Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. John Coyne:

Fr. John Coyne was ordained a priest in 1941, and served in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. According to media reports, he was first named publicly as a priest accused of sexual abuse on the Diocese of Baton Rouge’s list of credibly accused clergy in 2019. This list includes individuals who have been the subject of credible allegations of sexual abuse of one or more minors or vulnerable adults which allegedly occurred within the diocese.

The sole allegation of abuse made against Fr. Coyne was noted to have been received on December 1, 2002. The alleged abuse was said to have occurred from 1968-1972 when Fr. Coyne was assigned to St. Augustine Catholic Church in New Roads, LA. No further information was released about the gender/age of the victim, or the number of people who have come forward. Fr. Coyne left the Diocese of Baton Rouge in 1977. He was assigned to St. Paul Church in New Orleans in 1979.

John Coyne died in 1981.
