Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father John Giordano:

Father John Giordano was ordained a priest in 1967 and served in the Diocese of Metuchen.  According to media reports, in 2007, he retired amidst sexual abuse allegations involving him and another priest from St. Luke’s in North Plainfield, New Jersey. Publicly, Giordano attributed his retirement to the pressures of running a parish and the allegations of sexual misconduct against him that he said the Diocese of Metuchen settled despite his denial of misconduct.

According to an official statement, the Diocese of Metuchen investigated abuse claims against Giordano in the late 1980s and took no action against him at the time. No additional information was given about the victim or the specifics of the abuse.

Giordano’s name appears on the Diocese of Metuchen’s list of credibly accused priests, meaning that at least one allegation was found credibly by the Diocese’s internal review board.  Giordano has not been removed from the priesthood (laicized), which means he is still technically a priest who is likely receiving financial support from the Diocese of Metuchen.
